Emily Dickinson

EMILY DICKINSON

Born on December 10 1830, Emily Elizabeth Dickinson commonly called Emily Dickinson, is regarded as one of America's greatest poets. As a child, Emily was an introvert and was little known during her life. Out of nearly 1800 poems written by Emily, only 10 were published during her lifetime. The speakers of her poems were usually sharp sighted observers who noticed the minutest limitations of society. Through her poems, Emily often enhanced what she thought was possible however not yet realized by people. Considered an eccentric child by society, Emily spent most of her life in isolation. Her fame grew immensely after her death when  her younger sister, Lavinia discovered her collection of poems and saw her passion for it. 'The Poems of Emily Dickinson', published by Thomas H. Johnson in 1955 is a complete and unaltered collection of Emily's poems. Within a short period of time, they became extremely popular among the youth as well as poets all over the world. Ignoring the rules of poetry prevailing at that time, Emily focused on intellect and integrity of vision. Her style of poetry was indeed unique for its era. A woman of brilliance, Emily is an inspiration for thousands of people to work on their aspirations.
