Margaret Atwood

MARGARET ATWOOD Born on November 18 1939, Margaret Atwood is an utterly famous and inspiring Canadian poet, essayist, novelist, critic, teacher, inventor and environmental activist. Regarded as one of Canada's finest writers, she has published numerous works including 18 novels, 18 poetry books, 11 non-fiction books, 9 short fiction collections, 8 children's books, 2 graphic novels and various small editions of a combination of fiction and poetry. A voracious writer from the beginning, Atwood started writing plays and poems at the young age of 6. Having realized her passion for writing, she made up her mind to write professionally at the age of 16. Her fame as a poet grew after the publication of her collections, 'Double Persephone' and 'The Circle Game'. W. JADE AHER W. Jude Aher is a political activist, poet and hippie. A man of sheer determination and strong will, Aher faced various health difficulties during his lifetime, including repeated occurrences of stroke as well as multiple sclerosis. According to him, the obstacles in his course of life pave way for his writings. These struggles give him reasons to write. He firmly believes that one should never give up even when life is tough. The poet says "I create art not just words". Aher hopes that his art inspires people to face life's problems with a smile. A man of utter fame and honour, his work continues to inspire millions of young souls worldwide. 

Conrad Aiken

CONRAD AIKEN Born on August 5 1889 in the country of Georgia, Conrad Potter Aiken was an American poet, short story writer, critic and writer. Having suffered a rough childhood, Aiken lost his parents at a young age of 11 when his father murdered his wife and then committed suicide himself. The horrified boy was utterly traumatized by this incident and much of his work in the field of philosophy was influenced by this episode. The orphaned boy was raised by his great-aunt and uncle in Massachusetts. A student of Harvard University, Aiken co-edited the 'Advocate' with his friend and colleague, T.S. Eliot. Along with this, Aiken also studied under the famous influencer, George Santayana. Strongly influenced by symbolism, his writings were philosophical with strong thoughts running through them. Ralph Angel

RALPH ANGEL  Born in 1951 in the city of Washington, Ralph Angel was an utterly famous American poet and educator. A man of Sephardic Jewish descent, Ralph completed his early education in Seattle and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Washington while working for the Union Pacific Railroad. Besides this, Angel also received a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of California, Irvine. In the afterword to his translation of the Federico Garcia Lorca collection, Poema del cante jondo, Angel stated that he comes from a household of three languages, namely English, Hebrew and Ladino, one of which he could understand but not speak, one which he could sing but not understand and the other which was the language of his country. His poetry is set in a historical urban landscape. Some of his famous works include 'Your Moon', 'Exceptions and Melancholies: Poems 1986-2006', 'Twice Removed', 'In every direction' and 'Sampling'.

Deborah Ager

DEBORAH AGER Born in 1978, Deborah Ager is an American editor, poet and essayist. Married to writer Bill Beverly, Deborah lives in Hyattsville, Maryland with her husband and daughter, Olive. A graduate of the Newfield Network coaching school as well as a member of the International Coach Federation and Coachville, she earned a BA in English and a MFA in creative writing. She is the founder of the Book Activation and the Dream Client Formula. Besides this, she also founded the poetry magazine called '32 poems' in 2003 with the famous poet John Poch. Deborah has published three books and co-edited various anthologies, including 'Old Flame: 10 Years of 32 Poems Magazine' with Bill Beverly and John Poch and 'The Bloomsbury Anthology of Contemporary Jewish American Poetry' with M.E. Silverman. She has won various awards and honours for her creditable contribution towards the English language, some of them being the Tennessee Williams scholarship to the Sewanee Writer

Lascelles Abercrombie

LASCELLES ABERCROMBIE Born on 9 January 1881, Lascelles Abercrombie was an indeed famous British poet and critic associated with Georgian poetry. Regarded as one of the 'Dymock poets', Abercrombie worked in the community of several young and intellectual poets, namely Robert Frost, Edward Thomas, John Drinkwater, Wilfred Wilson Gibson and Rupert Brooke. Together the group published four editions of the literary journal 'New Numbers' in the time period of 1914 - 1915. In these editions, they often focused on poems that portrayed the traditions, beauty and cultural heritage of rural England. LOUISA MAY ALCOTT Louisa May Alcott, born on 29 November 1832 in the town of Pennsylvania, USA was an indeed famous and prominent American author, poet and short story writer. Raised by her transcendentalist parents, Alcott grew up with in the company of some utterly intellectual minds such as Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Having experienced a financially critical childhood, Alcott supported her family while working on her passion and fascination for poetry and writing. Her family firmly believed in the power and strength of love and communal justice.  As a child, she was a tomboy. GUILLAUME APOLLINAIRE Born on 26 August 1880 in the Italian city of Rome, Guillaume Apollinaire was a French poet, short story writer, playwright, art critic and novelist. He is regarded as one of the foremost and prominent figures of his century. Apollinaire spent most of his childhood travelling in Europe and hence, developed an obsession and charm for diverse cultures and traditions. After attaining the job of a bank clerk, he became friends with innovative and forward-looking artists, namely Picasso, Georges Braque, Henri Rousseau, and Marcel Duchamp. J.R.R. TOLKIEN Born on 3 January 1892, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien commonly known as J.R.R. Tolkien was an English poet, writer, philologist and academic. The author of highly famous fantasy novels like 'The Hobbit' and 'The Lord of the Rings', Tolkien led to a popular resurgence of this genre. Having suffered a rough childhood, he lost his father at the age of 4. This forced him, his mother and his younger brother Hilary to move back to England. Tolkien's mother, Mabel Tolkien passed away when he was merely 12 years old, leaving the two young boys orphaned. At this time, the family priest, Father Francis Morgan took over and made sure that all their materialistic, emotional and spiritual requirements were fulfilled.
