MARGARET ATWOOD

Born on November 18 1939, Margaret Atwood is an utterly famous and inspiring Canadian poet, essayist, novelist, critic, teacher, inventor and environmental activist. Regarded as one of Canada's finest writers, she has published numerous works including 18 novels, 18 poetry books, 11 non-fiction books, 9 short fiction collections, 8 children's books, 2 graphic novels and various small editions of a combination of fiction and poetry. A voracious writer from the beginning, Atwood started writing plays and poems at the young age of 6. Having realized her passion for writing, she made up her mind to write professionally at the age of 16. Her fame as a poet grew after the publication of her collections, 'Double Persephone' and 'The Circle Game'. Her poems are characterized by their nature of duality presented as separation which leads the characters to be isolated from the natural world. Along with this, suffering is often experienced by the female characters in her works. Her book of poetry, 'Morning in the Burned House'  reflects a situation where time is running out. Some of her famous works include 'The Edible Women', 'Expeditions', 'Angel Catbird', 'Dancing Girls' and 'Up in the Tree'. Indeed a legendary writer, Margaret Atwood continues to inspire people all over the world.
