Emily Brontë

 EMILY BRONTE Emily Brontë was an english novelist and poet with only one published book, Wuthering Heights which is now considered a classic. She was a writer in the Romantic Period, having lived between the years 1818 to 1848. She also has a book that was published with her writer sisters, Charlotte and Anne Brontë. This was published under the name of Ellis Bell (Emily), Curer and Acton Bell. She lost her mother to cancer at a very young age and was taken care of by her aunt. She had 2 older sisters who died due to unhygienic conditions at their school in 1825 and Emily’s father moved away from the town. She was a pianist and a teacher in her adulthood. Her health was worsened by the conditions at her school and the unsanitary conditions at her home. She developed tuberculosis and refused to take medical help until the last moment in her life when she accepted a doctor to look at her health. SYLVIA PLATH

 SYLVIA PLATH Sylvia Plath, a well known female poet who lived between the years of 1932-1963 is a poet with a lot of poems that are deep and very relatable. With a troubled marriage with Ted Hughes and her own personal trauma of her father’s death, she took her life in her 30s but yet had a literary following before that. Her poems are and were about the deepest feelings and she is one of the most adored poets of the 20th and 21st century. According to Thomas McClanahan, “at her brutal best—and Plath is a brutal poet—she taps a source of power that transforms her poetic voice into a raving avenger of womanhood and innocence.” In her studies, she excelled at it and won numerous awards. It was during her undergraduate years that Plath began to suffer the symptoms of severe depression that would ultimately lead to her death. RUDYARD KIPLING Rudyard Kipling, born on 30 December 1865, was an English poet, short-story writer, journalist and novelist. He is widely remembered for his tales and stories of colonial rule in India and his stories for children. Having awarded the Nobel Prize for literature in 1907, Kipling contributed greatly towards literature. During his childhood, Kipling was deeply influenced by his father, an artist and scholar. Born in India, Kipling loved the languages, cultures and traditions of the subcontinent. Having suffered a rough childhood, his rough encounters as a child played a great role in shaping his career. Kipling earned immense fame in the last decade of the 19th century. During his life, he turned down various awards and honours including a knighthood and the poet laureateship before finally accepting the Nobel Prize. JOHN KEATS Born on 31 October 1795, John Keats was an English romantic poet. He earned fame after his death and became one of the best known English poets in the history of mankind. Although Keats published only 54 of his poems, his work had a deep impact on people due to the variety of styles and structures used by him. His verses ranged from sonnets to the Spenserian romance to the Miltonic epic. As a child, Keats had a volatile personality. However at the age of 13, Keats began working on his passion of writing and composing. His hard work and perseverance paid off when he won his first academic award in summer 1809. His poems often used literary devices to create a beautiful and sensual imagery in the reader's mind. William Allingham

William Allingham, born on 19 March 1824 in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, Ireland, was an Irish poet, diarist and editor. He is best known for his Diary that was published after his death, in which he records his lively encounters with Tennyson, Carlyle and other writers and artists. He became a clerk in the bank where his father worked as the manager when he was just 13 years old, he worked there for about six years and during that time, he used the words and images of poetry for the satisfaction of his soul. In 1850, the first book of his poetry was published entitled, Poems in which he mentioned The Fairies and The Goblin Child of Ballyshannon and was dedicated to his literary friend Leigh Hunt. One of his most famous poems is ‘The Fairies’. William Allingham, writing over many verses and poems, died on 18 November 1889 in Hampstead, London.

SIR WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE Born in the year 1564, Sir William Shakespeare is commonly regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. His works, ranging from plays to collaborations to sonnets, have inspired millions of writers. Some of his most famous works include 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Hamlet', 'Macbeth' and 'Venus and Adonis'. As a child, William attended the local grammar school where he learnt Latin. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, the daughter of a local farmer and together they had 3 children. D ante Alighieri, considered the greatest Italian poet, was born in Florence, Italy, in 1265. He was known for establishing the use of the common language for all in literature at that time when most of  poetry was written in Latin which was only limited to most of the educated readers. EMILY DICKINSON Born on December 10 1830, Emily Elizabeth Dickinson commonly called Emily Dickinson, is regarded as one of America's greatest poets. As a child, Emily was an introvert and was little known during her life. Out of nearly 1800 poems written by Emily, only 10 were published during her lifetime. The speakers of her poems were usually sharp sighted observers who noticed the minutest limitations of society. Through her poems, Emily often enhanced what she thought was possible however not yet realized by people. Considered an eccentric child by society, Emily spent most of her life in isolation.   ago Born on 22 February 1805, Sarah fuller flower Adams commonly known as Sally Adams was a poet and hymnwriter. A woman of bravery , she handled herself and her siblings her parents' death.  After her father's death she and her sister were home workers. She also had to face deafness. Her sister Eliza, a composer, was so devoted to music that it also inspired Sarah. In 1841, she published her longest work called "Viva  perpetua , a dramatic work". Sarah's famous works are "Nearer my God , to thee" and many more. She has received many awards for her fabulous art of writing. Sarah died on 14 September 1848. From Sarah's life one can learn that no matter how difficult life gets, with hardwork anything can be achieved .

JANE AUSTEN

JANE AUSTEN   Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at Steventon in Hampshire, England. The daughter of George Austen and Cassandra, Jane began writing as an adolescent and grew to become a famous english writer. In 1801, her family moved to Bath. After her father died in 1805, they moved several times and they settled in Chawton, located near Steventon. Her first novel 'Sense and Sensibility' was published when her brother Henry came with help. Some of her famous words include 'Pride and Prejudice', 'Mansfield Park' and 'Emma', all of which were published anonymously. During 1816, her health turned bad due to Addison's disease and she died in Winchester on 18 July, 1817. A woman of hard work and fame, Jane Austen has inspired millions of people to not let obstacles stop them from achieving their goals.

Richard Aldington

  Born on July 8 1892,  Edward Goodfree Aldington commonly known as Richard Aldington  was a poet,novelist, critic and biographer who gave 50 years of his life to literature. He got his fame from his association with imagist group. The group was the key to the starting of his success. ANNA AKHMATOVA Anna Andreyevna Akhmatova, born on 23 June 1889 as Anna Gorenko, is regarded as one of the greatest Russian poets in the history of mankind. Her passion for poetry and verse began during her teenage years, however when her father found out about her aspirations and dreams, he compelled her to not shame the family's name by becoming a poetess. A woman with sheer determination, Anna did not give up on her ambition but chose to write under a pen name, with her last name being that of her maternal grandfather's. After attending law school in Kiev, she tied the knot with a famous critic and poet, Nikolai Gumilev. However, the marriage did not last long and the couple went separate ways after 8 years. MATTHEW ARNOLD Born on 24 December 1822, Matthew Arnold was a renowned English poet, writer and critique. Although he is better known for his famous works of critical essays, he started his career as a poet. Having won the Newdigate Prize for his poem ' Cromwell ', he graduated with second class honors from the Oxford University. Arnold made his way to fame after publishing collections of his poems, namely ' Empedocles on Etna, and Other Poems ' and ' Poems: A New Edition '. After earning the post of a professor in Oxford University, Arnold published a number of critical work, compiled in the collection ' Essays in Criticism ' and ' Culture and Anarchy '.
